The Touch of Memory — pierced ceramic forms lit from within by blue light, their openings casting pools of light onto the wall behind

About the Work

The Touch of Memory explores the way memory is held, released and transformed over time. The closed ceramic forms act as vessels, suggesting the memories and experiences we carry within us. Openings cut into each surface create negative spaces—places where material has been removed, echoing memories that fade, disappear or are consciously let go.

Light is an essential part of the installation. Passing through the openings, it extends the ceramic forms beyond their physical boundaries, creating shifting areas of light and shadow in the surrounding space. What is absent from the clay becomes present through light.

Made from different Raku clay bodies, each form carries its own surface, texture and pattern of openings. Together, the forms consider memory not as something fixed, but as something continually changing: what we hold, what we lose, and the traces that remain.
