Marlik Deer — a hand-built ceramic deer vessel with incised decoration, side view

History

A Vessel After Marlik

I recreated this piece from the original one from Marlik Hills in Persia, c. 750 BC. They used to keep wine and water in this kind of jar.

It is hollow, built with the soft-slab technique, and the clay is mixed from white stoneware and terracotta, mid-fired.
