The artwork was inspired by vivid childhood memories of beach visits: collecting shells, building sandcastles, the smell of food, the laughter of siblings, and the texture of sand. These experiences formed some of my earliest understandings of intimacy, connection, and creativity.
The artwork comprises two interdependent ceramic vessels hand-built in white Raku clay and fired to 1220°C. One piece features twisted fabric-like ends forming a pouch, representing the containment of memory. The other, larger and curvier form features flowing blue spikes and is intended to evoke the ocean, movement, and emotional depth.
Together, the forms complete one another visually and symbolically, embodying how memory and emotion are mutually sustaining.
